Many enhancements for all iDevices:

Browse

Consistent Finder-like listing for both Dropbox and local folders

Option to keep folders on top

Edit

Smarter Close: asks to confirm if modified; offers to save first

Enhanced Bluetooth hardware keyboard support

Many more file types now automatically considered editable:

including files w/o extensions (e.g. many config files)

Organize

Better Info view design

Enhanced delete operation

Better Inbox support: more file types can now be “Opened in Nocs” from other apps

Markdown files, PDF, images, etc.

Overall

Some options are now turned on by default

because some users never “discover” the Settings icon…

UI refinements

Performance and stability improvements

Latest versions of 3rd party components

And as always, more beautiful source code 8)

Please note that some of these refinements will be completely enabled in the 1.5.1 update coming in a few days.

A: By default, Nocs recognizes only .markdown files as Markdown documents, but it is really simple to tell Nocs about additional file name extensions you use:

Just go to Settings -> Markdown, and you’d see the “Recognized Extensions” page. There you turn on any other extensions you use for your Markdown documents.

The rationale for this is that many people like to keep .text files with plain text, and explicitly name Markdown files with a different extension. This way, you control which files get converted on-the-fly, and other files (e.g. .text) would be shown as simple text without getting converted unexpectedly. (e.g. line breaks are always line breaks)

As a related note, you can also control what file name (and extension) is used when creating new files (whether empty files, or those created with the “new with template” command), and thus you control whether new files are considered Markdown docs.

Go to Settings -> Organize, and you will find the “Default File Name” section.

Lastly, in Nocs, documents recognized as Markdown will be converted on-the-fly when viewed, and also have the “Export HTML” option available.

Q: How do you insert a picture in Markdown?

A: Use a syntax similar to a link:

![alt text](URL "optional title")

For example:

![Nocs title](http://www.wisd.com/nocs/demo/title-nocs.png "Nocs")

would generate this HTML:

<img src="http://www.wisd.com/nocs/demo/title-nocs.png"
    title="Nocs"
    alt="Nocs title" />

and show you:

Nocs text editor for iPhone

Nocs text editor for iPhone:
A new review of Nocs 1.4.1 from Macography.net.

Pray for Japan

All proceeds from 2011/03/11 to 2011/03/31 will be donated to Japanese relief efforts.

Nocs 1.4.1 Release Notes

release notes

v1.4.1

[fixed] unwired keyboard bug in the change file name view (introduced in v1.3; sorry!)

refined iPad icon

v1.4

Universal app with initial iPad support

new Markdown engine with many new features

icon updates

Nocs 1.3

Summary

This is another very important update. While 1.1 and 1.2 improved on the Organize part of Nocs’ mission and on overall usability, 1.3 boosts the Edit aspect.

TextExpander

It is one of the most requested features and we are happy to deliver it. Turn on the “TextExpander” option in the Edit page of Settings, and Nocs will work nicely with TextExpander touch. If you don’t have TE touch installed, you can still try a couple built-in snippets: Type “ddate” to enter the current date, or four spaces to insert a tab. This magic works not just in the editor, but also in other text fields, e.g., when you enter a file name.

Better Support for Multitasking

Various improvements make the editing worry-free. Whether you switch to another app, or are opening a file with Nocs from other apps, your edits are properly saved. No worry even in low-memory situations.

More

There are many other refinements in 1.3 (in particular the live feedback when customizing the UI color is quite cool), but we are not satisfied; we immediately got to work on the next update. Help us keep the improvements coming! Please go to:

Nocs Home -> Settings -> About Nocs -> Sharing: Spread the Word

to find ways to help us sustain Nocs’ development.

Thank you!

v1.3

TextExpander support

in text editor and also file name fields

better support for multitasking

properly saves edits when switching apps and before opening files from other apps

won’t lose data even in low memory situations

UI theme color adjustment live feedback

respects iPod touch, iPad: properly calling them by name

more descriptive help text in settings

This update mainly addresses the top user complaint, and the top usability issue. Both are usually costing us the 5th star.

Complaint: Color of the UI

In our newly refreshed web site you can see the rationale behind the yellowish interface color — it is a pencil theme — but if you still don’t like it, now you have a choice in v1.2. In fact, you have many choices: You can now customize the UI color to any shade you wish.

Usability issue: Settings? Where settings?

Many users did not even know about all the Nocs options available in the Settings app. New also in v1.2, the settings are now easily found right on the home screen, and we have reorganized it into groups of pages, preparing to expose many more options.

“Nocs” your socks off? Give it 5!

So now please, give us the 5th star! 8)

Nocs 1.2 Release Notes

release notes
